Earlier this week, GM’s UK division Vauxhall announced the limited edition Vauxhall VXR8 GTS-R.
The VXR8 GTS-R is a rebadge of our own, Australian HSV GTS-R – the low production, non-LS9 Zeta platform sendoff. Under the bonnet of the VXR8 GTS-R is the same 435kW and 740Nm 6.2L supercharged LSA V8 seen in the Australian model, along with the same front and rear splitters. In addition, the UK car receives the same LSD, torque vectoring, six-piston monoblock brakes, 20-inch forged alloys (9″ at the front and 10″ at the back) and performance tires.
According to Vauxhall’s press release, the VXR8 GTS-R will feature carbon fiber fender vents, a part-carbon-fiber rear spoiler, Alcantara steering wheels and gear knobs along with part-leather-part-Alcantara seats. Do note these parts are not usually standard on the GTS-R down under – they’re either optional on the regular GTS-R or standard on the $170K W1.
Just 15 GTS-Rs are going to be sold in the UK (compared to around 1300 rolling out of HSV’s Clayton factory) for a drive-away price of £74,500 – that equates to $129,000 AUD, over $19,000 more than its sale price in Australia. Further, VXR8 GTS-R owners don’t have to worry that their throaty, tyre-slaying V8 sedan is going to break – the cars are covered by a 3-year or 60,000 mile (96,600km) warranty.
The Vauxhall VXR8 GTS-R will make an official appearance at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed from June 29th to July 2nd, coincidentally at the same time as another limited-run, expensive super sedan: the Jaguar XE SV Project 8! Click here to see my article on that beast of a cat.
