This morning, BMW revealed the facelifted, 2018 BMW i3 – and it comes with a variety of changes.
The i3 range now comes with only one battery option, a 94Ah/33kWh one. It has also got its first major facelift, with redesigned bumpers, a new lower grille at the front and a glossy black roof. Range for the regular i3 sits at 290km on an NEDC cycle.
However, that’s not the reason this facelift is so exciting. With the 2018 model year, a new i3s model will be available – which is a sporty, more performance focused variant of the i3. It gets a power and torque bump to 135kW and 270Nm (compared to 125kW and 250Nm on the regular car) – this means it hits 100km/h 0.4 seconds faster in 6.9 seconds, and can hit a top speed of 100mph. This is at the cost of range however – the i3s has a 280km range on the NEDC cycle. Cosmetics wise, the i3s gets black accented bumpers, a 10mm-lower ride height, a 40mm wider track thanks to fender flares, 20mm wider tires and new 20-inch wheels over the regular i3.
The whole i3 range, for the 2018 model year, now gets a 10.2 inch iDrive display with Apple CarPlay, interior trim changes and a new exterior paint colour. What do you think of the new i3 and i3s? Do you think the i3s is worthy of the title of ‘hot hatch’? Let me know down below!
