Yesterday, Toyota announced pricing and specs for the all new, imported 2018 Camry which launches in the next month.
Toyota claims that this new model will bring the Camry more upmarket, and is a ‘bumper to bumper’ redesign that has ‘unprecedented change’.
The 2018 Camry range is primarily broken up into 4 variants – the base Ascent, Ascent Sport, SX and SL. These variants are available in a range of 3 powertrains. The first of these is a 2.5L 4-cylinder petrol – it makes 133kW and 231Nm, takes 91 RON fuel and is mated to a 6-speed automatic. The second powertrain uses the same 2.5L 4-pot, but connected to a 88kW electric motor to produce a total hybrid output of 160kW – it uses 4.5L per 100km, and is mated to a CVT transmission. The final and best powertrain is a 3.5L petrol V6 – it makes an incredible 224kW and 362Nm, takes 95 RON premium fuel and is mated to an 8-speed automatic. The pricing for the new Camry is very tactical – the Ascent hybrid is under $30K for taxi buyers, and the flagship V6 falls well under the perceived $50K barrier.
