Can you believe it? It’s been a whole year since I posted my very first car related post here on Redline. To celebrate, let’s restart the series I started this whole blog with. That’s right, it’s Used Car Bargain of the Week – season 2!
Let’s start the new season of UCBW off with a bang, with this 2014 Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG listed on Carsales for $40,000.
For 40 grand of your pennies you get a 4 year old, German luxury hatchback built for performance by AMG. Oh boy, those AMG boffins have done a stellar job – the A 45 is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing a staggering 265kW of power and 450Nm of torque. That results in a 4.6 second 0-100 time (that’s Ferrari 550 territory) and a top speed limited to 250km/h – incredible figures for a hot hatch. AMG haven’t taken away the A 45’s luxury credentials either – it still has a full leather interior, sports bucket seats, a fully-fledged infotainment system and more.
In the grand scheme of things $40,000 is a high price for a hatchback. However, when you consider what you’re getting, it’s a true bargain. Well, almost. The W176 A-Class (and Mercs in general) are infamous for high repair costs, and considering that this particular car has done almost 100,000km in just 4 years, I assume there would be some nasty surprises upon taking delivery.
Regardless, this car is still a steal. If you’re in the market for a cheap hyper hatch, this is the car for you. What do you think? Let me know!
