Today, Volvo unveiled their first 3-cylinder powertrain.
This new engine is the first ever 3-cylinder in Volvo’s long 91-year history.
Dubbed the T3, this powertrain uses the same modular design as Volvo’s Drive-E 4-cylinder engines, and will first feature in the new XC40 compact SUV followed by other 40 Series models. It’s a 1.5L turbocharged in-line 3, believed to produce 116kW of power. Initially, it will only be offered with a 6-speed manual, with an 8-speed auto available in 2019.
