Today we’ll be looking at the best, worst and biggest surprises from the 2018 New York auto show.
Best Production Car: Audi RS 5 Sportback
Unlike most modern motor show reveals, nobody saw this one coming at all – but does it really matter? Who thought an RS 5 Coupe with two extra doors could look so good? Audi, can you sponsor me, I really want one.
Best Concept: Volkswagen Atlas Tanoak
Usually ute concepts are just normal production cars with some bull bars, skid plates and lift kits tacked on, but not the Tanoak. It’s a completely new design based off the ubiqitous MQB platform, intended to rival the likes of the Honda Ridgeline in the USA. Volkswagen, for the love of God, build the bloody thing.
Worst Car: Subaru Forester
Fun fact: Subaru are one of the world’s largest owners of photocopiers? How do I know this? Just look at the ‘new’ Forester. Trying to spot the difference between it and the previous model is like playing Where’s Wally with a blindfold. No matter how much I talk s**t about its design, it’ll still print money. Welp.
Biggest Surprise: Nissan Altima
Wow, just wow. Usually Nissan Altimas are just boring, generic rental cars with looks that put you to sleep. Not the new one though – it really is a head turner, from that gaping grille to the aggressive body lines. This whole good looking mid-size sedan thing is really catching on, keep it up.
