MG has announced pricing and specifications for its updated MG3 light hatch range.
Opening the range is the MG3 Core, priced from $15,990. Standard equipment includes an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay, a four-speaker Yamaha audio system, cruise control, tartan-pattern cloth seats with contrast stitching, 15-inch alloy wheels and manual air-conditioning. There’s also a reversing camera, rear parking sensors and emergency brake assist (it applies extra brake pressure in an emergency stop if the driver does not apply enough force) – sadly, there’s no autonomous emergency braking.
Under the bonnet of all MG3s is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine producing 82kW of power and 160Nm of torque. It’s exclusively paired to a four-speed (yes, just four gears) automatic transmission, and consumes 6.7L/100km of fuel on the combined cycle.
At the top of the range is the MG3 Excite, priced from $17,490 drive-away. In addition to the Core’s standard kit, the Excite gets a six-speaker Yamaha sound system with USB input, climate control, a sportier body kit, 16-inch alloy wheels, vanity mirrors in the sun visors, seat-back map pockets, body-coloured mirrors with built-in indicators and leather/cloth tartan seats.
The MG3 is available in five colours: Tudor Yellow, Dover White, Regal Blue, Bristol Red and Scottish Silver – all bar Tudor Yellow and Dover White are metallic finishes.
The 2019 MG3 is on-sale now.
