HSV has finally announced pricing and specifications for its right-hand-drive-converted Camaro muscle car.
Priced from $85,990 plus on-road costs, the Camaro is available in just one trim: 2SS.
Under the bonnet is a 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine that produces 339kW of power and 617Nm of torque, which drives the rear wheels solely though an eight-speed automatic transmission. HSV says it wants to add a six-speed manual to the range, however due to the immense engineering work required it can’t announce a release date at this stage.
For reference, the Ford Mustang GT produces 339kW and 556Nm from its 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8, and drives the rear wheels though a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic.
Other performance features standard on the Camaro include 20-inch alloy wheels, 245/40 front and 275/35 rear Goodyear Eagle tyres, 4-piston Brembo performance brakes, bi-modal sports exhaust, limited-slip differential and independent rear suspension.
Standard comfort and convenience equipment includes heated and cooled leather seats, flat-bottomed heated leather steering wheel, sunroof, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, nine-speaker Bose audio system, ambient cabin lighting, keyless entry and start, power adjustable front seats, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, HID headlights, a universal garage door opener and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Safety equipment consists of lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, a reversing camera and parking sensors – sadly, there’s no autonomous emergency braking available at all.
The only option available across the range is metallic paint – you’ll have to pay $850 for Bright Yellow, Hyper Blue Metallic or Garnet Red.
Just 550 Camaros will be built for the 2018 model year, before the 2019-model-year version arrives late in 2019 with revised looks, a 10-speed auto and updated technology. The supercharged ZL1 may also arrive later down the line – however nothing has been confirmed.
The new HSV Camaro goes on sale in Australia at the end of September.
