In this post, we’ll be discussing Redline’s picks from the recent New York auto show.
Best Production Car: Porsche 911 Speedster
There were a number of excellent new debuts at this year’s New York show, however one stands out above the rest: the new 911 Speedster. With the same 4.0-litre flat-six as the outgoing GT3, it can push its drop-dead-gorgeous body along at a staggering rate, revving all the way up to 9000rpm. This is the last of its kind, as all future Porsche GT models will be turbocharged – so enjoy it while it lasts.
Best Concept: Genesis Mint
One of very few concept debuts at the New York show, the Genesis Mint is a real stunner. Intended to preview a small electric city car, the little green two-door is certainly one of the coolest concepts I’ve seen all year. Build it, Genesis!
Worst Car/Concept: Toyota Yaris Hatch
This is the new Yaris hatchback for the USA. Look familiar? Because it is. Instead of designing an all-new generation city car, Toyota just stuck their badges on a Mazda 2 and called it a day.
Unfortunately, its April 1st reveal date wasn’t a joke.
Biggest Surprise: Hyundai Sonata
Yeah, you heard that right. This is the all-new Hyundai Sonata, and what a looker it is.
The exterior isn’t the only good bit – the interior looks fantastic too, with a digital instrument cluster now available on high-spec models. There’s even an N Line variant coming next year, with over 200 kilowatts…
