After years of delays, Hyundai’s luxury brand Genesis has finally arrived in Australia. Pricing and specifications were released this week for the headline model in the range, the all-new G70 sedan.
Intended to rival luxury sedans like the BMW 3 Series, Jaguar XE and Audi A4, the G70 will be sold Down Under through the brand’s sole showroom in Sydney’s CBD (sites in Melbourne and Brisbane will arrive later), as opposed to through the 167 Hyundai dealers spread across the country.
A total of six variants will be offered, spanning across two powertrains: a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 180kW of power and 353Nm of torque, and a 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol developing 272kW and 510Nm. Both options are paired to eight-speed automatic gearboxes that drive the rear wheels.
The range opens with the base 2.0T, powered by the aforementioned four-cylinder engine, priced from $59,300 plus on-road costs. Standard equipment includes an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and satellite navigation, 18-inch wheels (with Continental tyres), dual-zone climate control, 12-way heated power-adjustable leather seats, electronic parking brake, keyless entry and push-button start.
There’s also wireless phone charging, power tailgate, a nine-speaker sound system and a wide array of safety technology, including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop & go functionality, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, tyre pressure monitoring, rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.
Step up to the 2.0T Sport, priced from $63,300 plus on-road costs, and you get dark chrome exterior trim, four-piston front and two-piston rear Brembo brakes, 19-inch sport alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres and a mechanical limited-slip differential.
Sitting atop the four-cylinder-powered range is the 2.0T Ultimate, priced from $69,300 plus on-road costs. It adds a heads-up display, 360-degree camera, adaptive LED headlights, panoramic sunroof, Nappa leather upholstery, heated and cooled front seats, 15-speaker premium sound system and a heated steering wheel.
Looking for more oomph? Three turbo V6 powered variants will be offered: Sport, Ultimate and Ultimate Sport. Standard equipment lists for each are straightforward: the $72,450 3.3T Sport gets the same kit as the 2.0T Sport, the $79,950 3.3T Ultimate the same as the 2.0T Ultimate, and the top-trim 3.3T Ultimate Sport adds the Sport’s black accents and sporty Brembos to the Ultimate’s equipment list.
