Audi has debuted the S8, the A8 limousine’s sportier relative.
Whereas the S6 and S7 launched with V6 diesel engines, the S8 is powered by a large 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V8 paired to a 48-volt mild hybrid system. It produces 420kW of power and 800Nm of torque – enough punch for an electronically limited 250km/h top speed. Drive is sent to all four wheels through Audi’s signature quattro AWD system and an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Under the skin, active air suspension (which can push or lift each wheel seperately) is fitted as standard, in addition to rear-wheel steering and a rear limited-slip differential. Carbon ceramic brakes measuring 420mm up front and 370mm at the rear are available as an option.
