Toyota GR Yaris teased: prototype hot-hatch set for Nov. 17 debut

Toyota is preparing to turn up the wick on its latest-generation Yaris, confirming that a hot GR variant will make its debut in the coming weeks.

The Japanese brand released a single image across its social media channels, showing a new-gen Yaris wrapped in the same red-and-black camouflage that adorned pre-production versions of the GR Supra straight-six sports car.

Beneath the striking camo, it’s no normal Yaris. The rear arches are swollen well beyond those of the standard hybrid – suggesting large alloy wheels wrapped in wide, sticky tyres will feature – while there also appears to be a subtle lip spoiler.

Take a peer at the background of the teaser and you’ll notice a ‘GR-4’ logo, potentially hinting at the hot city car sporting an all-wheel-drive drivetrain.

Little else is known about the GR Yaris – namely regarding its engine or potential electrification. However, we’ll know more once the covers officially come off on November 17 at Rally Australia in Coffs Harbour, the final round of the 2019 World Rally Championship.
