Bentley has unveiled a facelift for its second-best-selling model, the Bentayga SUV.
The Range Rover rival has been given a comprehensive exterior styling update to bring it into line with newer models in the Bentley lineup. Up front there’s a larger, more upright front grille, surrounded by new matrix LED headlights and a restyled lower fascia.
The rear end has been completely redesigned, with a wider tailgate, new exhaust tips and Continental GT-inspired, oval-shaped tail-lights.
Rear track width has increased by 20mm, with the wider rear arches concealing restyled 22-inch alloy wheels. ‘Wet-arm’ heated windscreen wipers also feature, with 22 individual wiper jets in each wiper arm.
Inside, the updated Bentayga gains a new steering wheel and redesigned centre console up front, with the latter home to a larger 10.9-inch infotainment display with Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay. A digital instrument cluster and redesigned head-up display also bolster the list of changes for the facelifted model.
Rear passengers in four-seat Bentaygas benefit from a near-100mm increase in legroom and an extra 30mm of kneeroom, while five-seat models score ventilated rear seats. All models offer the option of a larger 5-inch infotainment tablet for rear occupants, allowing passengers to control the air conditioning, main infotainment system, ambient lighting, seat heating and massage functions.
A range of new seat and door trims will be offered, including a new diamond-brushed aluminium inlays package.
One powertrain will be offered at launch: a 404kW/770Nm 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, sending drive to all wheels through an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. Bentley claims a 0-100km/h sprint time of 4.5 seconds, towards a 290km/h top speed.
6.0-litre W12 ‘Speed‘ and V6-powered plug-in hybrid options will join the range at a later date. Their power/torque outputs have yet to be detailed, though if the pre-facelift model is any guide, expect figures of 497kW/900Nm and 330kW for the 12-cylinder and PHEV models respectively.
The 2021 Bentley Bentayga will go on sale in Europe in the third quarter of 2020.
