Earlier today, Range Rover pulled the wraps off its long awaited and teased Velar – a model that will fit between the baby Evoque and the Sport.

Marketed as the ‘avant garde’ Range Rover, the Velar features a new coupe-like rear end, sleeker external features and new cutting edge technology.

6 engines will be available from launch for the Velar:

  1. 2.0L I4 turbo-diesel #1: 132kW and 430Nm
  2. 2.0L I4 turbo-diesel #2: 177kW and 500Nm
  3. 2.0L I4 turbo petrol: 184kW and 365Nm
  4. 3.0L V6 diesel: 221kW and 700Nm
  5. 3.0L V6 supercharged petrol: 280kW and 450Nm (0-100 in 5.7 seconds)

In terms of features and cosmetic items, the Velar features matrix LED lights, a 10-inch 4G infotainment system, Land Rover’s offroad Terrain Response system, safety systems like AEB and lane keep assist and adjustable air suspension – along with a drag coefficient of 0.32.

The Velar will launch locally at the very end of the year (December-ish) for $70,300 to $135,400 depending on spec, with a ‘First Edition’ available for launch only at $167,600. Although the Velar sounds interesting, I’m not a fan of Range Rover or SUVs in general. What do you think? Let me know!
