Today, Spanish Volkswagen-Group-brand Seat unveiled their all new Leon Cupra R, the ultra high performance, track focused, Leon-based hot hatch.
Under the bonnet of the Leon Cupra R is the EA888 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo engine, which produces 228kW when paired with a 6-speed manual or 220kW when paired with the 6-speed DSG gearbox. Those are identical figures to the EA888-powered VW Golf R and Audi S3 sold in cold markets, however unlike its relatives the Leon Cupra R is front wheel drive only. No performance numbers have been listed by Seat, but considering the upgrades the Leon Cupra R has received over its traditional Cupra brother a 0-100km/h time in the neighborhood of 5.5 seconds could be expected.
Speaking of upgrades, over its lesser Leon Cupra sibling the R has gained adaptive suspension, Brembo brakes, dynamic chassis control and a new exhaust system, as well as modified front camber. The rest of the upgrades to the Leon Cupra R are cosmetic, which include carbon front and rear spoilers, carbon rear diffusers and side skirts, copper wheels and mirrors and angrier wheel arches and front bumper intakes. Inside there are even more carbon and copper highlights, along with Alcantara trim pieces. Three colours are available – Midnight Black, Pyrenees Grey and the Matte Grey pictured.
The Seat Leon Cupra R is limited to just 799 units, and will be available in ‘select markets’ in the end of 2017. What do you think? Let me know down below!
